Privacy policy

Dyson Canada Limited ("Dyson", "we", "us" or "our") takes steps to ensure it meets privacy principles and requirements with respect to personal information under applicable Canadian privacy legislation. The purpose of this statement is to inform our customers and other individuals we deal with ("you" or "your") how we collect, use, disclose and protect your personal information. Personal information is information about an identifiable individual, as more particularly described under applicable privacy legislation. Personal information does not, however, generally include the following contact information of an employee of an organization; name, title, business address or business telephone number. This statement applies to our collection, use and disclosure of personal information in Canada. This statement does not apply to information about our employees or to information that is not personal information.

Personal Information We Collect

Dyson and its agents and representatives collect personal information in a number of circumstances in the course of its distribution and marketing of Dyson products including vacuum cleaners and accessories in Canada. Personal information we collect includes:

  1. name, address, telephone number, and other contact information;
  2. if you register on our website or register your products with us either online or offline, you will be required to provide us with your name, telephone number, email address (if you have one) and postal address. We may also ask for additional information to assist us with our development of new products;
  3. personal information you provide to us including contact information and credit card or payment information you provide when purchasing products or services from us whether on or offline or request that information be sent to you;
  4. any personal information you submit to us through our websites including www.dyson.com;
  5. personal information you provide when you participate in a promotion or contest or when you respond to a questionnaire or survey;
  6. personal information you provide when you contact us concerning our products or services such as when you contact our customer service centre by telephone or contact us by mail or otherwise;
  7. personal information you submit to us in a resume or otherwise in connection with employment;
  8. personal information that our sales representatives may collect relevant to maintaining and managing our relationship with our customers and others;
  9. such other information we may collect with consent or as permitted or required by law.

Use of Personal Information
Dyson generally uses personal information for the following purposes:

  1. providing you with the services and goods you request;
  2. contacting you about our products and services or third parties that offer related products and services unless you have informed us that you do not wish to receive such information;
  3. providing customer service relevant to you and responding to your inquiries;
  4. administering promotions and contests;
  5. improving our products and services;
  6. administering product investigations or recalls, should that be necessary;
  7. managing, administering, collecting or otherwise enforcing accounts;
  8. maintaining business records for reasonable periods, and generally managing and administering our business;
  9. establishing and maintaining relationships with commercial customers;

Disclosure of Your Personal Information
Dyson transfers or discloses personal information in the following circumstances:

  1. to manage and administer its business for example to collect debts owing to Dyson;
  2. to service providers Dyson uses to support its business, for example, call centre, data warehouse, market research and similar services;
  3. as necessary to meet legal, regulatory, insurance, audit, processing and security requirements, with your consent, or as permitted or required by law; for example we will disclose your personal information in response to legal processes, such as a court order or subpoena;
  4. to our affiliates (including outside of Canada) for internal audit, management, billing or administrative purposes.

In addition we may disclose statistical information to third parties in aggregate form without revealing any personal information about our users (for example, 50% of our customers buy product parts online).

Service Providers
Personal information may be transferred to third party agents or service providers we engage to provide goods or services on our behalf such as service agents who we use to service Dyson products, some of which may be located outside of Canada. Some of our services (for example, some marketing support) may be provided through facilities operated by our affiliates located outside of Canada including Dyson Direct Inc. located in the U.S. and Dyson Ltd. located in England. We take reasonable measures to ensure that your personal information that may be collected, used, disclosed or otherwise processed by these service providers or our affiliates on our behalf is protected and not used or disclosed for purposes other than as directed by us, subject to legal requirements in foreign jurisdictions applicable to those organizations, for example lawful requirements to disclose personal information to government authorities in those countries.

Business Transactions
Personal information may be used by Dyson and disclosed to parties connected with the contemplated or actual financing, securitization, insuring, sale, assignment or other disposal of all or part of Dyson or our business or assets, for the purposes of evaluating and/or performing the proposed transaction. These purposes may include:

  1. permitting those parties to determine whether to proceed or continue with the transaction.
  2. fulfilling reporting, inspection or audit requirements or obligations to those parties.
  3. permitting the use and disclosure of your personal information by those parties (for example, assignees) for substantially the same purposes as described in this privacy statement.

Our Website/The Internet
Information collected from users of our website users is collected in several ways, including through cookies, registration and emails sent to us via our website.

If you purchase a product through our website in addition to other personal information described above, we will require you to provide us with your payment and delivery details.

If you send us email messages, you will automatically provide us with your electronic mail address, as well as any other personally identifiable information you include in the text of your message.

We collect and store from all visitors to our website, whether they actively provide us with information or merely browse our website, the internet protocol (IP) address of the computer they are using, the browser software they use and their operating system, the date and time they access our website, the internet address of the website from which they linked directly to our website. Like most internet websites, we use "cookies," small files that websites use to store information on your computer. For example, the contents of your entry for a quiz on our website are temporarily stored in cookies on your computer. The cookies that we use are removed when you shut down your web browser and cannot be seen by any other website. We protect your personal information using physical, electronic or procedural security measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information in our custody or control, which may include safeguards to protect against loss or theft, as well as unauthorized access, disclosure, copying, use or modification. Authorized employees, agents and mandataries of Dyson who require access to your personal information in order to fulfill their job requirements will have access to your personal information.

As a service to you, we may provide links to websites operated and controlled by third parties. Those third parties have their own information collection practices. We are not responsible for their information collection practices or for the content of their sites.
